Before setting foot into K-beauty, I had never heard of propolis let alone know the benefits of propolis. Fast forward to now and I am obsessed with skincare that has propolis or honey. One of my first ever propolis related products was the By Wishtrend Polyphenols in Propolis 15% Ampoule and after finishing two bottles, here is what I have to say.
Propolis has been widely loved by skincare enthusiasts for its countless benefits. But why is propolis a star favorite and what are the benefits of propolis? Propolis is a resin collected by honeybees from tree buds that help build, protect and repair their hive. A number of studies have shown propolis to have incredible benefits for the skin namely – wound healing ability, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory & soothing properties. It is also rich in antioxidants, accelerates the rate of cell growth, provides intense nourishment and helps in decongesting pores thus preventing breakouts. For these beneficial effects, propolis is a favorite ingredient amongst many skincare lovers.
Despite its name, propolis is not the main ingredient in the By Wishtrend ampoule. This is curated with two polyphenols that are within the propolis – Catechin and Quercetin, that are good in antioxidants and nourishment for the skin. Along with propolis, the main ingredient in this is Houttuynia Cordata extract (listed as the first ingredient) which is an extremely effective ingredient in purifying and soothing the skin.
My thoughts
I remember repurchasing this while I was still on my first bottle. Prior to this, I was having breakouts in my cheek and chin area. And when I started using this, my skin immediately felt a lot calmer and hence the immediate impulse to repurchase was made. The texture of this is slightly thicker as compared to my current Skinfood’s propolis essence. This can get a tad bit tacky only if you apply too much of the product, so I think this issue can be completely resolved and depends entirely on the amount used. This hardly has any fragrance or at least it is not too strong for my preference. The first noticeable result with this is how it kept my skin breakouts free. Now my skin barrier has become a lot stronger and has improved, but for those initial breakout days, this was the STAR of my skincare routine.
In Conclusion
Although there is a small confusion around the name of this ampoule, the product itself is really effective in soothing and calming the skin. What I like the most about this ampoule is how it effectively calmed down my skin and my breakouts completely ceased (including hormonal breakouts, which could be due to the H. Cordata in this). So I think this will be ideal if you have dry to combination, acne-prone sensitive skin that needs a soothing serum.
