Any K-beauty lover, or as a matter of fact, any beauty lover most certainly know Park Hye-min, aka Pony – the most popular South Korean make-up artist/blogger/YouTuber. When I first got into the world of K-beauty, I used to watch a lot of Pony’s YouTube videos. I remember being in awe of her beauty right from the start. Her innovative concepts, makeup tutorials, skincare hacks, and tips have garnered attention worldwide. She truly is one global trendsetter that has uplifted K-beauty to higher levels. Pony launched her makeup brand – Pony Effect in November 2015. And although I had been following her YouTube videos and growth, I had never tried any of her makeup products. So you can well imagine my level of excitement to finally get the chance to try one of Pony’s creation. Join me as I share my experience in this Pony Effect Coverstay Cushion Foundation Review.

Packaging

Firstly, the packaging of this cushion foundation needs a separate adoration. I love gold-colored packaging, and this just quenches my thirst for a luxurious looking makeup to carry around in my bag.  

The packaging surprisingly feels very light, but it looks like it is well crafted. The glossy body of the packaging itself serves well as a mirror. Because of this, fingerprints can catch on the packaging efficiently, which of course, clean away thoroughly.

A full cornered mirror covers the inside part, which is of high quality and clarity. The sponge applicator that comes with this foundation too feels like excellent quality. It is soft, doesn’t eat up all the picked-up products, and it gives a very smooth and even application. Even the satin ribbon strap of the sponge applicator feels like it is well built-in and sown.

My Thoughts:

For reference, I am of Asian descent with neutral undertones. I wear a MAC NC25, Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless in number 120 (Classic Ivory). The shade for this PONY EFFECT Coverstay Cushion Foundation is 003 – Nude Beige.

I have only tried a few cushion foundations previously, and I was not impressed with any of them. But the PONY EFFECT Coverstay Cushion Foundation was a foundation that I had always wanted to try to due its good raves and hype.

This cushion foundation provides medium coverage and has a semi-matte finish. Since I lean more towards a natural look, I feel the medium coverage works well for me. I dab lightly into the well-soaked cushion foundation, and I work in small areas. I think taking in small amounts and working in small areas work best with cushion foundations. One lightly pressed dab into the cushion foundation works well in covering one cheek. Instead of pushing the sponge applicator deeply into the foundation, gently pressed cushion works the best in giving a more even finish. 

I dread foundation that sits on top of my skin looking cakey and gross. With this cushion foundation, I found the foundation to blend in well with my skin, looking almost like a second skin, but better. It feels exceptionally airy, light, and comfortable on the skin surface. I use a sheer application of this foundation, on and I do not need to set it with a powder. Immediately, it gives a beautiful semi-dewy look, which gradually settles down to a semi-matte finish.

For the first few hours, this cushion foundation stays perfect, after which it starts oxidizing and gives off a powdery finish. I would say this foundation wore well up to 4 hours when indoors before it requiring any touch-ups here and there.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I like the PONY EFFECT Coverstay Cushion Foundation. From the packaging, wearability to the durability, this cushion foundation has greatly surpassed any cushion foundations that I have tried before. Also, this cushion foundation set comes with a refill pack, which is like a cherry on top.
