Like most of you, I didnโ€™t know about LHA (lipo hydroxy acid) until the Rovectin LHA Blemish Ampoule. LHA is a derivative of salicylic acid, a chemical exfoliator that is a gentler alternative for those whose skin may not tolerate stronger salicylic acid like AHA but still want something that can help treat acne-prone skin. Allow me to share with you all my experience with the Rovectin LHA Blemish Ampoule.

What are LHAs – Lipo Hydroxy Acids?

Firstly, what are LHAs and what role/benefits do they have?

  • LHAs have been known to have good control over blemish formation (since LHAs have stronger lipophilic properties, they have the ability to dissolve in lipids/fats).
  • Lipo Hydroxy Acids referred to as LHAs, is a derivative of Salicylic Acid and has skin renewing, exfoliating, anti-inflammatory, and acne-treating properties. Not just these but LHAs also work effectively on clogged pores with sebum and blackheads.
  • Since the pH of LHAs is around 5, which is very close to the natural pH of the skin, it lowers the risk of irritation or an allergic reaction when applied.
  • LHAs have the same capacity as AHAs and BHAs, but with a lesser risk of skin irritation.

How to use?

After cleansing and prepping the skin with a toner, apply a few drops over troubled areas or all over the face.

My Thoughts

Since LHAs also have exfoliating properties, it is best to incorporate LHA as a first step in a skincare routine, so as to make it more effective and allow better absorption of other products.

Although LHAs are considered to be a very gentle version of chemical exfoliant, I started off by using this LHA Blemish Ampoule as a spot treatment directly over my acne scars for a few days. Unlike AHAs that are too strong for my skin, this felt comfortably gentle so I could easily start using this all over my face.

The texture feels viscous and gel-type but dissolves into a more watery state when rubbed. A little amount is sufficient as this spreads well. Has no scent and did not feel irritating when applied. The clogging of pores and fading of blemishes gradually improved over time.

LHA being a very gentle chemical exfoliant, it worked quite well in fading my blemishes. Since my โ€˜maskneโ€™ (acne from ๐Ÿ˜ท) outbreak over my chin area had left some scarring, this definitely helped in fading the scars.

(*CONS: I would prefer a pump disposer as the dropper makes it a bit of a job to get the product out).

Final Thoughts

AHAs are a bit too harsh for my skin but with this Rovectin LHA Blemish Ampoule, I had no issues/irritation. I used it for both my morning and night routine. After finishing two bottles of this ampoule, I can say this is a gentle yet effective ampoule.

As far as fading blemishes, it does help in fading the hyperpigmentation gradually. I am just happy to finally have a chemical exfoliant that is gentle and effective. This is a good alternative for those whose skin cannot tolerate strong AHAs.
